The Visitation
A Call to Reach Out to Others
The Angel Gabriel told Mary "that her cousin Elizabeth also, in her old age, has conceived a son , and she whom people called barren is now in her sixth month, for nothing is impossible to God." Here we he have the reading for today's Gospel which ends at verse 45 - later on St Like adds "Mary responded to the news of Elizabeth's pregnancy and visited Elizabeth and "stayed there for some three months and then went home" - until John the Baptist was born presumably.
How do I respond to the needs of people? Do I listen to people when they talk to me? What is the quality of my presence to people? Elizabeth praised Mary for believing "that the promise made her by the Lord would be fulfilled."
Do I trust in God? Am I ready to say with Mary - "Behold the handmaid of the Lord - be it done unto me according to your word"?
