Fr Noel: Trinity Sunday

The Most Holy Trinity Sunday - Year B - 27th May, 2018

In the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit. We were instructed, either as children or adults, to make the sign of the cross and then say these words.

The words "In the name" mean "By the power". We are reminding ourselves that we are in God's presence and we wish to address God - Father, Son and Sprit. Three persons - one God. God is a mystery. In God there is community, Father, Son and Sprit. God, with the help of our parents, brought us into the world. When we were baptised, we got a share of his life. God did all this because he loves us all.

What is my response? Do I thank God enough or at all? Am I willing to share my time, my gifts, especially with people who need my help? Do I ask God to give me the gift of wisdom and strength when I am confused, when I am sick or when I am grieving the loss of a loved one?

I have noticed that many people use mobile phones on the street, on the bus or train. I suppose it is a way of loving people, getting in touch with others or reading a book - a way of relating to people.

How do I relate to God? What does God mean to me? Am I afraid of God? Can I be honest and open with God and with other people?

Fr. Noel Travers, C.M.
